Community
God, it seems, has designed us to live in community... We all know that we have a tendency towards independence but deep down we are aware that we need others and they need us. We know that love is the most important thing in life. We know that people matter more than things...
Being a community is a central part of what as a church we are all about... we know we haven't
arrived but we know where we are heading.
None of us at who belong to this church family believe that being a community
is easy - but I think that we have decided that it is better for us to share our
lives together than to live our lives on our own, ambitious for our own personal
goals... it costs us but we think it is worth it... And so we put effort
into this... at least we try to...
That's why we meet on Sunday and why we get together
in small groups... because we need each other
Jesus once prayed this:
"My prayer is... that all of them may be one, Father,
just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that
the world may believe that you have sent me. "
John 17:20-21
I guess we are know that the church has often been anything other than 'one'. We all know stories of bad churches, riddled with division... but we want to be different... we want to be one - we know it matters - we know that people notice - we know that it shows...
